Fillers MSDS

Fillers , such as gypsum, calcium carbonate (limestone), kaolin (clay) and alumina trihydrate can be added to resin to enhance performance and reduce manufacturing costs. These additives are used to make polyester resin more chemical and corrosion resistant, act as a fire retardant, enhance shrink-resistance and be thermally stable, as well as capable of withstanding weather conditions.

Calcium Carbonate - Functional Filler

Ground calcium carbonate and precipitated calcium carbonate products serve as functional fillers in plastic and rubber applications. Calcium carbonates are the major engineered filler used in plastics with more than half of the total mineral consumption. Calcium carbonate is widely used as in polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyolefin, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and unsaturated polyester resins applications. Calcium carbonate is used for its excellent optical properties, ability to improve impact strength, role as a processing aid and ability to replace expensive plastic resins.


Talc is used to stiffen thermoplastics, mainly polypropylene but also polyethylene and polyamide (nylon). Main applications are automotive parts, household appliances and engineering plastics.

Fillite Extendosphere - Polymer Additives

Potters beads and spheres are widely used in conjunction with polymers. Product offerings include solid and hollow materials specific for uses in cosmetics, adhesives, thermoset and thermoplastic engineered resins, paints, coatings, putties and construction materials.

Compatible with most resin types, these products enable formulators to achieve functional benefits in specific end uses including improved flow characteristics, weight reduction and resin extension. Functional coatings can also improve bonding characteristics and filler loadings within a given polymer matrix.

Milled Glass Fiber is produced by grinding glass fiber in a special method into a powder form of cotton-like appearance. It performs the intermediate function between chopped strand and glass powder. In particular, it improves the physical properties such as thermal property and dimensional stability while maintaining the excellent surface finishes of the product.


Milled fiber is widely used as material for improving the molding properties of all sorts of composites and their physical properties. It displays effectiveness particularly when used in R-RIM, FRTP and also in coatings and gel coats to prevent cracks.


Cabosil, also called Aerosil is a synthetic, amorphous, untreated fumed silicon dioxide. When mixed into liquid resin, Cabosil functions as a resin thickener. It is pure white and free-flowing.


HI FIBE 210 is a low cost fiber filler system used in Caulks, Cements, Crack Fillers, Epoxies, Mastics, Plastics, Polyester Resins, Putties, Taping Muds, Textured Coatings, Vinyl Molding Compounds, and anywhere an economical fibrous filler is needed.

HI FIBE is now used in many fiber-fill required applications. Because of its fibrillated structure, HI FIBE functions to increase viscosity and to improve slump and crack resistance in oil and water based systems. It is chemically inert, with excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, bleaches, solvents, mildew and sunlight. HI FIBE is an exceptionally uniform product which will not separate during mixing and is formulated for ease of dispersion. HI FIBE offers the advantages of good dispersibility, wet and dry slump resistance, very low shrinkage upon drying, and airless spraying. HI FIBE products have a high degree of water and oil absorbency.
